Trump would not be first president to send National Guard soldiers to US-Mexico border: Jennifer Earl, Fox News
Earl's article from Fox News addresses the recent decision to send National Guard soldiers to the US's border with Mexico. Trump aimed to use the National Guard as a temporary solution to border security until his wall is competed. This decision was also made by the former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. The plan succeeded a considerable amount in catching illegal immigrants and drug smugglers trying to cross the border in the past.
I chose this article because border control has been a large topic of interest in recent news. I believe that this action to increase border security can create the same success as the past. It was proven to lower immigration and drug trafficking rates, and keep untrustworthy people out of the country. This could also have an unfortunate effect of keeping out desperate families and good people in need. This creates the argument of if this is the right decision or not.
I find your post very interesting. I did not know that President Bush and Obama made the same decision had President Trump. I think the right decision is whatever keeps our people safe.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we should do whatever we can to keep legal American citizens states. On your point about desperate and good people, I believe there should be some system that allows them to live in America if they can prove that they are a hard-working and worthy citizen. I wonder if that has been tried before (if not, it should be tested).
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Obama also sent troops to the border. I hope that one day humane laws will be created that keep the US safe but respect people that want to gain citizenship.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting topic that I am glad that you wrote about. I too agree with the idea that this can have a very positive effect on our nation.
